Supervised Independent Living (SIL)
Our mission in Family Services is focused on enriching the lives of individuals and families through outstanding supports and mutually rewarding relationships. One of our core services involves assisting teenagers and young adults as they prepare for emancipation. Young adults aged 17 to 21 who are on the verge of independence may be referred by their county's Department of Human Services to Delta's SIL program. SIL members live in their own apartments, with weekly visits from their Delta social workers.
Through SIL services, young adults are provided supports to ensure that they:
attend regular school
participate in bi-monthly life skills class
receive assistance with job placement
are given the chance to engage in social opportunities
Philadelphia DHS recently recognized Family Services' SIL program as the standard-setter for the region when it awarded the program top honors on last year's compliance evaluations.
